Fic Listing

A general listing of my female-centric fic for the past year (by fandom):

DC COMICS
beauty in the breakdown -- He's very clear when they first meet: "Someday I'm going to break your heart." Later, Zatanna Zatara discovers that when he's right, John Constantine is right.

Façade -- No matter which of the faces Batman wears, they still manage to gel together. And it's almost enough for Zatanna. Almost.

stop to check you out -- Zatanna Zatara and John Constantine talk. While stoned. Need I say more?

FIREFLY/SERENITY
never as it seems -- A rough interpretation of the events of the Star Trek film filtered through River Tam's eyes.

What Remains -- Zoe finds River in Serenity's cockpit. As always, there's more going on than meets the eye.

HARRY POTTER
Noble in Reason -- As Oscar Wilde said, "Between men and women there is no friendship possible. There is passion, enmity, worship, love, but no friendship." Rose Weasley and Scorpius Malfoy know this better than most.

JUSTICE LEAGUE UNLIMITED
don't sound like no sonnet -- Wonder Woman and Batman have a talk while he's recovering from that whole Doomsday mission thing. As always, more is said than the words they exchange.

MARVEL COMICS
always vulgar and often convincing -- Dani Moonstar happens upon Sam Guthrie watching some questionable television late one night.

in a sense gone -- Sam Guthrie wants to know why Dani Moonstar's been copping an attitude with him and she's not talking-- not willingly, anyway.

it will do thee no good -- In which Illyana Rasputin is naughty and Kitty Pryde tries to scold her, then things devolve into a pillow fight.

let go and know -- After her chat with the Beast, Molly Hayes decides to visit the X-Men in NorCal about the whole extinction thing. First, though, she foils Sebastian Shaw's escape attempt and semi-rescues Wolverine.

Sweet Content -- For Dani Moonstar, there's nothing like sharing a porch swing with a beer and a good friend.

NCIS
A Place Called Perfect -- Abby Sciuto and Tim McGee walk Jethro the dog. They have a reversal of roles as she talks about the future and he tries not to think about it.

Continuing Ziva's Cultural Education -- "Lesson #174: The Knock-Knock Joke"

What's Past is Prologue -- A series of unscenes (or unseen/missing scenes) between Tim McGee and Abby Sciuto over the course of Season Seven. (Find it via AO3 or at ff.net)

NIKITA
A Wise Fool -- Short piece about the lines we draw, how they blur and what reality really is... or isn't.

STAR TREK XI
a doer a wooer -- Leonard McCoy runs into Christine Chapel during an overnight hospital shift and they chat. (Well, more like exchange witty repartee and make interesting expressions at each other, while communicating surprisingly well.)

a matter of time -- When Janice Rand was assigned as yeoman to James T. Kirk, she knew he'd be trouble for her. A case of (mostly) one-sided Kirk/Rand.

another day, another daring rescue -- Five times Janice Rand rescued Jim Kirk and one time she didn't need to.

better days then this -- The Enterprise makes official first contact with Angel I. Uhura leads the away team; things go well, then they don't.

Cosmic Jokes, Karmic Retribution and Other Excuses for Life's Little Ironies -- Christine Chapel does not like hostile work environments or Leonard McCoy, and she's not shy about letting people know about it, especially her family. Featuring assorted female cousins and siblings.

Freedom's Reign -- Gaila came to Starfleet Academy for freedom, just not the kind most expect.

Hell of a Woman -- Leonard McCoy was fine with the way he was: damaged and bitter and determined to stay that way. Then he met Christine Chapel.

her honor bright -- Uhura stands up for what she believes in. Unfortunately, at sixteen, all it gets her is in trouble. Thankfully her grandmother provides some perspective.

if you miss, you may hit a star -- Christine Chapel isn't quite sure what it means to be a nurse in Starfleet but she thinks maybe an elective piloting course will help her figure it out.

leave your things behind -- Elizabeth Dehner has always had a plan. Then Vulcan is destroyed and things aren't so simple anymore.

Prelude -- The infamous alien known as Q meets the intrepid explorers of the Enterprise. It's just not the Enterprise he generally frequents... and his interest isn't in the Captain, either, but in his Yeoman.

Salt, Sweat, Sugar -- [WWII AU] Christine Chapel thought she knew where her life was going, then war broke out and she met a man named Leonard McCoy and things weren't that straightforward anymore.

something more than nothing: 1 | 2 | 3 -- Three part short story in which Christine Chapel and Leonard McCoy deal with the something more than nothing between them.

time to realize -- Five times Jim Kirk (belatedly) realized something (somewhat obvious) about Janice Rand and one time she proved what he'd always known.

THAT '70s SHOW
Lightning Strike -- Jackie Burkhart knows it'd be stupid to fall for Steven Hyde. Lightning doesn't strike twice in the same place.

X-MEN MOVIES
A Contest Most Fierce -- Lorna Dane shows Dani Moonstar that there's more to be done with watermelons than simply eating them.

on a stormy afternoon -- A thunderstorm makes Illyana Rasputin wonder what would happen if Jeb Guthrie was hit by lightning and then uses her wiles to try and get him to find out.

X-MEN: EVOLUTION
the lady doth protest too much, methinks -- Rogue deals with the Awesome Pain of hating Gambit. (Because she doesn't like him, okay?)

watch me burn -- Destiny comes for Jean Grey in the form of the Phoenix. (or, how one of Charles Xavier's premonitions comes true)

AU BtVS Faith fic: Talking to the Trees by Kerkevik

Hi,

     I thought I'd finish off this year's halfamoon with a Faith-centred fic I wrote for Jet Wolf's The Chosen  http://www.btvschosen.com/   Buffy continuation; much more canon to me than the season 8 comics, though I am thinking of having Satsu turn up on the Trimouth.

   Spoilery background info for those who might be interested enough to start reading Season 8 will be at the end.

   Hope you take the time to read and pass me your thoughts. The more feedback the better :-)

  Still under Willow & Tara's spell,
  Ray.

TITLE: Talking To The Trees
AUTHOR: Ray Harley
DISCLAIMER: Most of this belongs to Mutant Enemy etc... The rest belongs mostly to Jet Wolf and her pack. The Idea for the story is mine. There, that should scare off the nasty scary lawyers... do ya think?
RATING: R for strong language.
SUMMARY: Faith is struggling with her dark side again - or maybe her conscience? - and gets a visit from an old acquaintance.
AUTHOR'S NOTES: The dialogue at the beginning is Angel's from AtS season one episode 'Sanctuary'.

SPOILERY BACKGROUND INFO~~~~~~~~~~~

~~~
~~~

~~~
~~~

~~~
Background info: In The Chosen's canon, Faith became the mentor of a new slayer called Hazel; who was murdered by a flellow slayer who turned out to be a traitor. Faith has been, in my take on the story, been torturing herself over her reaction to that event. Also, in an early episode, a tree was planted as a result of an agreement between Willow & other protagonists in that epsiode. It was intended to be somewhere everyone at Slayer Central could go and think about; talk, or judge honour those who they had lost.
Watchmen | you are life
Shameless fic roundup!
I really wanted to write something for this as soon as I discovered this fandom, and I got a good start, but then it grew and grew and grew, and I haven't finished tweaking it yet. So I figured that I might as well toss my things out and hope they attracted some interest.
Avatar: The Last Airbender
And the Bloody Lipmarks On Her Thighs [Azula/Katara, R, 2000 words]  AU, action/semi-horror. Azula is always in control of the situation. Always.
Final Fantasy XIII
Like Sisters [Lightning & Serah gen, PG, 1000 words] Pregame, angst. The Farron sisters are fine on their own.
Food On the Table [Lightning & Serah gen, PG, 200 words] Pregame, angst. They always make sure there's something.
Steel Against Lace [Lightning & Serah gen, G, 100 words] Pregame, angst. Serah knows how to clean a weapon.
Analogies Lost to Technology [Lightning, Serah/Snow, G, 100 words]  Postgame, fluff. Lightning's first impressions of three very important people.
Promises Not Made By Heroes [Fang/Vanille, very subtle R, 100 words] Pregame, angst. Fang promised Vanille a life, once.
Hamlet
The Dissolving Thoughts of a Drowning Madwoman [Ophelia, R, 750 words] Swim for shore or stay in the water? It's so hard to make up her mind.
The Hunger Games
Choosing Fate [Prim, PG-13, 500 words] Prim has always known when to brace herself.
Inception
The Myth Is Not Supposed to Retire (We'd Rather It Lit Itself On Fire) [Saito, Ariadne, Eames, Yusuf,  Cobb, Arthur, brief Saito/Ariadne, PG-13, 2200 words] It's impossible to stop being a dreamer, and most wouldn't even try. And great dreamers don't live very long. **Note: This one is kind of a group focus, but I found out enough about Ariadne in writing it that I threw it in with the rest.
With Thanks to Apollo [Ariadne, OCs, mentions of Arthur, Eames and Yusuf, PG, 1500 words] It's normal for a young woman almost out of college to seem a little different when she visits her family, right?
So Much to Say [Ariadne, Ariadne/Arthur, R, 900 words] Post-movie. After building cities and haunting minds, how do you go back to being twenty-two and inexperienced?
Merlin
[These are all part of the same high school AU, which seemed like an excellent idea at the time.]
To Adorn You In My Finest [Gwen/Morgana, G, 1700 words] Morgana invites Gwen to her father's Christmas party.
In Lovers' Eyes [Gwen/Morgana, G, 500 words] Gwen loves anything to do with art. Morgana loves to watch Gwen work.
Fantasize (The Best Laid Plans) [Gwen/Morgana, R, 2300 words] Morgana had a lot of plans for her first time with Gwen. The reality doesn't match up with any of them. Sheer fluff.
Treasure Troves [Gorlois, Gwen/Morgana, 1300 words]  Moragan celebrates her sixteenth birthday, first with her father and then with Gwen.
Sherlock Holmes (2009 version)
Imperfect [Mary, Sherlock/Watson, PG, 1300 words] There are a great many reasons Mary must get along with Sherlock Holmes. There are also a great many reasons for that to be difficult.
Dashwood sisters
FIC: Sense & Sensibility/Doctor Who crossover, "Relatives & Relativity"
I didn't write any fic specifically for halfamoon - but as people are linking some of their previous stuff, I thought I would share this, which of all the stories I wrote in the past year comes closest to restating the theme of this community:
Click on to "Relatives & Relativity", in which the newly regenerated Ninth Doctor appears in Regency-era England, amid the events of Sense & Sensibility, and tests both Elinor's practicality and Marianne's imagination. And it turns out more is going on with Willoughby than it may first have appeared ...
Graphic: The ABCs of Women on TV
Title: The ABCs of Women on TV: 26 27 Awesome Ladies From 26 Different shows.
Fandoms: There are a bunch. 26, in fact.
Warning: Largish graphic
Description: A random graphic/mini-pic spam celebrating 27 awesome women from different TV shows. Alphabetically.
A/N: I came up with this idea to make a ABCs of awesome female characters on TV, with every letter of the alphabet represented by a different awesome character from a different show. And I couldn't shake the idea, so I did it! (Okay, I may have cheated a bit by counting Martha as Torchwood and not Doctor Who, but...)
ncis - tony/ziva - right there
Ziva David, a study in fiction
NCIS wouldn't be the same for me and wouldn't have suckered me in so hard if it weren't for Ziva David - one pretty, badass, conflicted, torn and very messed up girl with too many nuances for her own good. The real beauty of Ziva? Is that she's not just as obviously tough and kickass as this...
... but is also incredibly vulnerable when you least expect it, like this...
And she never really learned to deal with emotion too well. Pesky feelings are the one thing to incapacitate her faster than any bullet or knife could.
So, over the past year I have written 60 stories in total - most of them shipping Tony and Ziva, one way or the other. Some of them, though, have a heavy focus on her, and these I want to share here. All of them are as difficult and complicated as Ziva is herself. Some are not quite nice, some are painful, some are steamy.
History
summary: Tony discovers that there are things in Ziva's past that he isn't quite ready for.
word count: around 1,000
Time, Fleeting
summary: When Ziva is injured in the line of duty, she has to re-evaluate her life.
word count: around 24,000
Over Troubled Water
summary: The case they are investigating on stirs up things in Ziva's past. And Tony notices. (set during "Patriot Down")
word count: around 2,700
Director's Cut
warnings & rating: The shippy part of this is drunken, very adult almost-sweetness - well, as sweet as two emotionally inept people can get. The Somalia/backgroundy part is anything but sweet.
word count: around 7,400
Glitter
summary: Ziva, undercover, in a night club. And Tony gets to watch. (very much *not* safe for work)
word count: around 2,000
Loss of
summary: A short tag to "Truth or Consequences", about as painful as the whole episode.
Pony
summary: Ziva needs reassurance, and she needs it in the middle of the night. (short tag to "Enemies Domestic")
word count: a little less than 1,900
Fast Track
summary: Ziva's past, through her eyes and mind, beginning when she is sixteen, ending a short time after "Enemies Domestic". Spoilers up to that episode. Yes, it is T/Z, but that isn't the point of this story. ;)
word count: 4,300
The Flavor of the Wind
summary: "Henna-painted leafs grew up her toes, wrapping themselves around her ankles, and for a second he wondered how far up her leg the decoration went."
warnings & rating: This is a historical AU, set in a time and place when slavery was common, and it involves slave!Tony and slave trader!Ziva, so please be aware of this before you go in.
word count: 49,000 in total
Vid Recs: lost ladies
For Arts and Entertainment at 14valentines
The television world is run by male executives looking at the bottom line with barely any room outside of their nice neat little boxes of what makes successful tv. Mainstream media shows tend to have majority male casts and the Bechdel test is something that you usually hope your show passes once in a while let alone individual episodes. Female characters are often dropped or maligned for "plot" reasons, the expendable characters in favor of their male counterparts.
Fan creations often keep these characters alive, or even reinvent the text. Today I have vid recs for friged or vilified female characters. Some of these are old, some of them are fandom classics, but all of them are worth watching, and if you'd like to give me you're own recs, I'd love to have them.
Note: Some of the links are download only. Right click, save as, and if you don't want to keep them, just delete them afterward.
Supernatural
-- Supernatural has arguably one of the worst track records of keeping women alive on the show and its treatment of female characters in general. The first two vids are about the show as a whole and are criticisms of the text and how fans as a whole continue the denigration of women.
The third vid is about Jess, Sam's girlfriend whose death serves as the source of manpain for Sam through the first season, sacrificed in classic have-to-get-the main-character-to-do-something style.
Women's Work by </a></b></a>sisabet and </a></b></a>sockkpuppett (Luminosity)
Meta vid about how the show treats women characters in Supernatural. A fandom classic, but worth watching if you haven't yet.
Still Alive by </a></b></a>counteragent
Meta vid about Supernatural fandom and how it treats women characters.
Just Like You (scroll down, it's 7th) by </a></b></a>gigglemonster
AU where Jess doesn't die at the beginning of the series and Sam finds her in a small town.
Stargate Atlantis
-- Elizabeth Weir portrayed by Torri Higginson was written off at the end of season 3. Why is still unclear, but most reports agree that Higginson was unhappy with the decision.
24 by </a></b></a>shayz
Elizabeth Weir through the Multiverse
Unwritten by </a></b></a>sache8
All about Elizabeth.
Merlin -- When Merlin (BBC) first started, Morgana was a vibrant young woman who spoke her mind and stood up to Uther for what was right. She got punished for it, by Uther, and then by the writers, who then turned her from a 3-dimensional character into a one-note villain. I still love Morgana, but I mourn the character she could have been.
Runaway
by alexp444
Morgana during the growing pressures of season 2.
The Tower by </a></b></a>kaydeefalls
Morgana and the ever closing vice around her from living under Uther's rule.
As If By Magic by </a></b></a>powderedmilk
Morgana's transformation through season 3. A contrast of a rather dark subject with a catchy upbeat song.
Criminal Minds -- I'm new to this fandom, but one of the first things I learned about the show was how the producers didn't renew AJ Cook's contract for the 6th season with no real reason given. Agent Jennifer "JJ" Jereau was effectively friged with no replacement. JJ deals with the press and many of the families of victims and is compassionate and kind but also hard as nails when she needs to be to get the job done.
